- Can you see yourself using and enthusiastically promoting
the products? If you haven't already tried the products, be
sure to at least get a few samples before joining a company.
- Consumable products will encourage repeat business.
Consumables are those things that a customer will use up and
need more of (makeup, food, paper products, candles, etc.).
You have some built in business from those customers who will
come back to you to replenish their supply.
- For most direct sales companies, the price of the items
will not be a major selling point. Most products offered by
direct sales companies can be purchased in local stores for
less.
But you need to consider pricing in terms of how much you
need to sell to reach your income goals. You may be able to
sell many more units of a lower priced product, but your
profit will also be lower per sale. At a 20% commission,
you'll make the same $200 whether you sell 500 tubes of $2
lipstick or you sell 2 spa packages at $500 each.
Will you be more encouraged and motivated making $2 sales
everyday or can you stay motivated making $500 sales every
few weeks?
Many direct sales consultants will suggest that you have to be
"passionate" about your product in order to be successful. Your
passion will certainly shine through and help you sell, but if
you can reach an audience that is passionate about your
product, they will buy.
