How to Format Your eBook

When your ebook is written, you'll want to put it together so it looks like a book.

There are certain components that each ebook should have.

Here is a list of the sections you need to include, and some tips on how to create them:

Cover Page

First of all, you will need a cover page for your ebook. On your cover page, include the title of your book, a subtitle, your name, and a clickable link to your website.

If you have design talents, you may be able to create an attractive graphic for this page. You can also hire someone to create a graphic for you. However, not all ebooks have a design here.

Index

Your ebook will also need to have an index of all the chapters or topics that you cover in your book. Some programs like MS Word can automatically create an index for you. Otherwise, you can go through your book and note all the chapters or topic headings and their page numbers.

Then create a list of them. If your book is very long, it may be helpful to make the listings in your index clickable, so readers can easily navigate to the part of the book they want to read.

About the Author

This section of the book is very important, as it's where you can promote your business to your readers and establish your credibility. You will want to let your readers know why they should believe what you have to say in the book. For that reason, you can talk about your experience.

Talk about your business and how you help people like them. Be sure to include a link to your websites or blogs, and let your readers know how to get in touch with you for more information.

Summary and/or Closing

A summary is another important component of your ebook. The summary lets the reader know what they're about to read, and why they should read it. Even if they've already purchased the book, this is where you can remind them why they should take the time to read it right now, instead of letting it languish on their computer hard drive.

To create a summary, you can describe some of the problems your reader might be facing right now. Then explain what they will learn in this book and how it will help them overcome those problems. Tell them the main points they will learn.

Putting It All Together

When you have the sections of your book created, you're ready to put it all together. One thing you'll want to do is be sure to number the pages. It might seem obvious, but some ebook publishers do forget, and it makes it difficult to navigate through the book.

You will also want to make sure that each new topic or chapter is distinctive from the rest, so your readers can easily find what they're looking for. Finally, make each topic or heading larger than the rest of the text so they stand out when the reader is scanning the pages on their computer screen or ebook reader.

If you include all these components, you will have given your readers the tools they need to use your book. You will also have given them the information they need to learn more about you and your business. Now you're ready to get your book out there and enjoy the benefits of being a published author.
