You can sell seat covers, steering wheel covers, special floor mats, air fresheners, storage items --- the possibilities are endless.

Some people are crazy about their cars. They clean them religiously and love to accessorize. These people are the target audience for your business. Car people will look for accessories to make their car more comfortable and unique.

What you will be doing. With a car accessories business, you will be selling car seat covers, steering wheel covers, air fresheners, floor mats, and other items. Whatever a person can use to make their car a showpiece, they will be looking to buy at a good price. Unique offerings will enhance your product line.

How to start. Visit stores that sell car accessories. Look at the types and prices of the items they offer. Go to a car wash. People who are passionate about their cars spend lots of time cleaning them. Here you can learn what people want when they are looking for accessories for their automobile.

Be on the lookout for sales where you can pick up some inventory at discount prices. The area of accessories you want to specialize in will determine how much space is needed to store the inventory. In your area, start off with a few of the bigger items and larger inventories of things like air fresheners and rear view mirror accents. These are large sellers and are guaranteed to move.

A computer and spreadsheet software is needed to keep up with inventory. Printing a new list weekly of your stock will keep you knowledgeable when speaking to potential clients.

Start up costs. This largely depends on what you stock. Seat covers can be pricey depending on the material. If you own a computer, Microsoft Excel or Access should be loaded on your system. If not, purchasing it is a good investment for any business venture. Taking pictures of a select sampling of your inventory to upload to a website requires a digital camera with good resolution so customers can get an idea of what they are buying. Shipping will require the appropriate boxes and materials to get your products where they need to be.

Marketing. Newspaper advertising will let local people know that you have car accessories for sale at reasonable prices. Car shows will give businesses an opportunity to see what you carry. They may place an order with you then and there depending on your business savvy. If not, give them a business card complete with website information for later use.

Selling on eBay is an option for the more unique car accessories that you find. People will pay well for something that no one else has. Specializing in accessories that are tailored to a specific brand of car would also sell well online with the proper promotion.
