How To Become a Market Niche Researcher

Starting a business online today is an exciting and popular decision. 

One of the initial stumbling blocks for many, however, is figuring out which focused segment of the marketplace or “niche” will prove to be the most lucrative for their business.


The reason the decision is so difficult is that if a business is built around a particular niche that in turn doesn’t really attract a sizeable audience, it doesn’t generate an income either.  The challenge is in finding the “right” niche at the right time.  That’s where a good niche research assistant can help. 

A niche research assistant can do a lot of the research and analysis involved in determining a successful niche for a business owner.  A smart business owner will want to choose a niche that is a “hot topic” in the marketplace and ideally of some personal interest to them as well since they’ll be managing this business.  The process of choosing the “hot topic” can involve some rather lengthy research and is therefore a good task to outsource to a niche research assistant.

Determining the current “hot topics” that are generating sales and interest online requires a person who can identify those places on the web where credible information about current topics can be monitored.  

Those locations might include news websites like, business websites like, keyword search aggregator sites like Google Hot Trends and social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook. 

Any one of those websites can easily distract an unskilled researcher for hours on end.  A good research assistant will ask her client questions around their market preferences and business interests and skills in order to focus in on the types of hot stories, features and key words that can be leveraged successfully by her client. 

As well, some hot topics are simply the basis of popular discussions but can’t be linked to any potentially profitable ventures (as in affiliate sales or potential products or services a client might create).  A good niche research assistant will be able to filter out hot topics that are unprofitable from those that have promise. 


Another great source for hot niche ideas are online forums.  Again, based on the client’s priorities, experience, skills and interests, a niche research assistant can select a few forums to visit for the purpose of “listening in” on the current topics that leading influencers in that forum are talking about.


Sometimes the hottest niche area is sitting on a store shelf or packed on a promotional rack, or screaming from a series of headlines on the magazine rack. A creative niche research assistant can visit various high-traffic, popular stores to seek out trends in hot selling items or well promoted products and cross reference that with headlines and stories appearing in key news sites and blogs currently being monitored. 

Identifying Clients 

Conducting this kind of research is time consuming but so very valuable to all kinds of online entrepreneurs, especially PLR (Private Label Rights) content producers.  PLR producers are serving the growing need of entrepreneurs who require fresh, quality website content that they can use to fill their websites while they focus on running their business.
