How to Sell Your eBook

So, your ebook is all put together and now you're ready to sell it. One of my subscribers is in the same boat. Here's what she asked:

Q: I am writing an e-book to sell and was wondering which 3rd party merchant would be better to use: ClickBank or PayPal? Thanks!

That's a great question and one I've had to contemplate myself, so let me share my findings and thoughts with you. Ultimately, you'll need to decide which is best for your product. Let's take a look at these two options...plus one more:

 

ClickBank

ClickBank: is a 3rd party program that basically takes over the sale of your ebook. The process your orders, deliver the ebook, pay your affiliates and pay you. You don't have to worry about payment processors, taking care of affiliate commissions or sales tax. ClickBank sells your ebook for you.

Pros: Hands-free system that takes care of everything for you.

Cons: Transaction fees are pretty high. You also don't have access to all your affiliates. You may want to have affiliates sign up for a mailing list off of your website before giving them an affiliate link. However, if affiliates find your product directly from ClickBank, you won't have a way to keep in touch with your affiliates. In addition, you'll need to set up a system to follow-up with your customers.

PayPal

PayPal:  is basically a 3rd party payment processor. It allows you to accept credit cards, but you still need to have a way to deliver your ebook and set up an affiliate system...plus pay your affiliates.

If you are accepting PayPal only, PayLoadz offers a great option for digital delivery and setting up your affiliate program.

Pros: Fees are lower than with ClickBank. You pay a flat monthly fee and then your PayPal transaction fees. You have access to your money immediately.

Cons: Just like with ClickBank, you don't have a built-in follow-up system for your affiliates or customers. You can only accept PayPal as a payment option.

QuickSales

QuickSales: This a are more sophisticated shopping cart program that I use. It will do the following for you:

• Integrate with PayPal, your merchant account or other 3rd party programs. You can offer many payment options.
• Digitally and automatically deliver your ebook.
• Manage your affiliate program. You can set up a 2-tier program and offer different commissions to different affiliates.
• Follow ups with multiple autoresponders - Automatically follow up with your customers and affiliates.
• Tracking codes to see where your sales come from.

I highly recommend this option, particularly if you are going to sell multiple products (ebooks or regular products) because you can handle everything from one account. Your affiliates will also have access to all your products, so they can easily find promotion materials and increase your sales.

So, What's Your Choice?

It's up to you, of course! ClickBank offers you the most hands-free option, but has its limitations without a built-in follow-up process. PayLoadz is an economical option, but limits your payment options and doesn't have a built-in follow-up process either. QuickSales offers the most flexible options and the best value for long-term marketing of your ebooks and other products. However, it has a larger monthly fee that you'll need to evaluate.

Whatever options you choose, just keep in mind that you want to have full access to your affiliates and your customers. A satisfied customer can be a satisfied customer for life. Affiliates need training and to be reminded of your product. In addition, good affiliates deserve extra attention and special treatment.
