Start a Skincare Products Business

What you will be doing.  If skin care is a priority in your life, selling products for the skin can be a way to make extra money working for yourself.  Those who enjoy teaching and demonstrating skin care techniques to others would benefit from a business like this. 

Entrepreneurs in this type of career could be estheticians, manicurists, makeup artists, massage therapists, or the average person who loves to have radiant skin. 

How to start.  Depending on the avenue you take with this business, you will need a registered name and some capital.  This business can be expensive to start especially if you buy an inventory of products.  As a businessperson, business insurance and a license legitimize and protect your business. 

There are two ways to go with this business.  You can decide to buy into a franchise.  There are companies that specialize in skin care and for a fee you can own your own piece of the company.  You would be an independent beauty or skin care consultant selling their products.  You would not need a name for the business in this case, because you would work under the franchise name. 

Starting costs.  Starting costs for such a business could be between $1,000 and 3,000.  When working with a franchise operation like Avon or Mary Kay cosmetics you will buy products to stock your inventory.  A computer with Internet access, printer, and telephone are necessary to talk with and find clients.  With the Internet, you can set up your own website for customers to make online purchases.  

Skills needed.  A skin care products business requires an outgoing personality.  If you will be selling locally, you will so in search of your customers.  Men and women need skin care, but convincing them of that will take a shrewd person who can think on their feet.  Follow-up with clients is a part of good customer service.  Customer loyalty is born this way.   

Knowledge of skin care helps when customers don’t know what to choose for themselves.  Asking a few simple questions can lead them to the perfect products.  Taking a skin care class or reading literature about skin maintenance can help you gain more knowledge to better the business. 

Marketing Flyers in neighborhood mailboxes and ads in the classified newspaper are ways to let others know about your skin care business.  Through friends and family, perform skin care shows in their homes and let people see for themselves how the products work on you and them.  Then, customers can purchase what they need from your website.   

Skin care is important for everyone.  Healthy skin reflects a healthy body on the inside.  It is also a good walking billboard for the products that you sell.
